Problem
One of AO's software customers was putting the finishing touches on a product and was to start delivery in less than a month. Then they learned that a small plug-in Ethernet module used in their system was no longer being manufactured and they couldn't find an off-the-shelf substitute. They asked AO's circuit board design services to create a replacement module - in two weeks.
Solution
The original module was not available because the microprocessor that was used was no longer produced. What initially looked like a simple replication of the existing circuit turned into a hunt for substitute parts and a total redesign. Along the way several enhancements were designed into the new circuit to improve performance and reliability.
Results
The AO Ethernet module was a perfect substitute for the original board and was in the customer's hands two weeks after the initial phone call. The customer was able to meet the original delivery schedule.
